Jantar Mantar

Soi Buakhao

Jantar Mantar is a large observatory in New Delhi that was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1724 to help and enhance time and space studies. The Jantar Mantar is a set of 13 architectural astronomy instruments that could be used to compile astronomical tables to forecast the passage and timings of the sun, moon, and planets.

The top three instruments that should not be ignored while visiting Jantar Mantar are the Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, and Misra Yantra. The Samrat Yantra, which stands parallel to the Earth's axis, is a broad hour sundial that aids in timekeeping. The Jayaprakash Yantra is a hemisphere-shaped structure used for aligning star poisoning to different markings. The Misra Yantra is used to calculate the year's longest and shortest days.

The instruments, which are made of brick and rubble and then plastered with lime, are repaired and replaced on a regular basis without any major changes. When visiting Jantar Mantar, visitors can note the small Bhairava temple to the east of the main site, which was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II.
